I got my tubes, YOU?

“And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It’s not a truck. It’s a series of tubes.” – United States Senator Ted Stevens

And a glorious set of tubes they are. I’m riding on glass and couldn’t be happier. Fiber the home is pretty awesome! And seeing the Speakeasy bandwidth test results come up with 15000kbps download and 2000kbps upload, well, thats something only a dork like me can be tickled pink about. I have not yet moved the this server to the house but I can’t wait until I do. Cruddy Ole’ Comcast cable modem. Ok, Comcast isn’t bad, but I think Verizon FiOS just won the round.
Back to painting.

FiOS

Today is an exciting day because Verizon is going to be showing up at the house to complete our FiOS installation. For the non-tech group, I’m having fiber installed to provide all of my Telephone, TV, and Internet services. The fiber has been trenched to the side of the house and is ready to be terminated. The internet will be super fast, something like 15Mb Down and 2Mb Up, which is great because it will also improve the performance of Kamen Lee Dot Com. This service is not yet widely available, so I’m pretty stoked to have moved somewhere that has it available. Our Telephone and TV will also be fed by this which will be nice to have one provider for all three services. Maybe I’ll post a review of it or something. I’m all nerded up about this! Happy Friday.

Updates and General Musings

The idea of painting an entire house sounds good, but doing such in a short time span is, well, nuts. We have been priming the ugly bits and trying to decide on what colors we like, don’t like and where they should go. We are finally making progress and I think a grill purchase is in our future to enable a painting party that EVERYONE is invited to! Grab a burger and a beer and get to rolling that paint! There’s A LOT of wall space to cover.
In other news, huh………….., I think paint is it.

Update: I have taken a few Before and After shots of the little bit of work I have completed so far. I should have some new pictures up by this weekend.

Big Ole Mountain O’ Paint

The above image, in my opinion, is a good representation of the workload of the coming month. I am ecstatic to be in our new home, but no cloud 9 I know can keep me from noticing the mass of walls, trim and ceilings that need a fresh coat of paint. We are currently going through the pile of paint chips we have picked up and are trying to decide what the perfect color combo is going to be. I never thought it would be as challenging as it is.
Anyone in the mood for a painting party?
I do have a question……….how do I paint trim that is on the floor, touching the carpet?
I’m sure there’s a trick.
Good news, I finished putting all new lock sets on the front and side doors. I have a few before and after pics to share. I’ll put them up soon.

It’s OFFICIAL!

Drum roll please.
We are proud to announce that Melanie and I are now officially HOMEOWNERS! The closing went off without a hitch and the to-do list just got a lot longer. We are very excited about our future home and can’t wait to get started prepping it for move-in. And we’re starting first thing tomorrow. We have been by the house a couple of times this evening and I have to say, even though we haven’t moved our stuff in or done anything to the interior, it already feels like our home. I can envision how it will feel when our stuff is in the house and the colors of our choosing are on the walls. If you can’t tell, I’m pretty excited. When we walked out of our lawyers office it was impossible to wipe the goofy grin off my face. This is going to be awesome! Just like everyone else that purchases a house, it’s been a long road and I’m glad that trip is over because now the journey can begin.

Not to cry wolf or anything

If I’m wrong today, well, I’ll have to put the same kind of post up tomorrow I suppose. However, I am 98% certain that Melanie and I are going to be homeowners in a few short hours. You see, this time the paperwork is waiting on us, not the other way around. And boy does that feel nice. I am looking forward to actually cracking open that bottle of bubbly I have been packing and unpacking for the last two days. Once we polish that off it’s time to actually start the transformation from a strangers house to OUR house. Anyone good with rollers and brushes?

PS – If any of the McDaniel family is reading this, tell Kelli that I still want her to come over and draw pictures on the walls with me!

Hurry up and Wait

Well we had another false alarm today. It came down to the wire and this time something else wasn’t going to show up in time. No worries though, I think the difficult bits are behind us. We have re-scheduled for tomorrow @ 4:30 for a walk through and 5:30 to close. I am now certain that I won’t soon forget this experience. The cool part, however, is that once it’s over we will be beginning a totally new and uncharted phase of our life. I’m pretty excited about that. And I can finally buy that shovel I wanted but had no reason to buy it previously, ok, I had reasons they just weren’t good ones.

Always a story to tell……….

So if you have been keeping up with the site, you might be expecting an announcement by now that we have officially closed on our house. Unfortunately this is not yet the case………. The seller did get the stuff out of the house, late, but he did it. And everything on our end has come through incident free. The last minute hitch, and I mean LAST minute, was there were some financial issues on the sellers side that came to light only today that made forward progress impossible. We are hoping for tomorrow, but have no idea if that’s going to happen. Also, the seller, whilst moving out his stuff, decided to dump a ton of those spiffy little purple pebbles from the bottom of his gigantic fish tank all over the front yard. Not so much all over, mostly in and on the bushes with a little covert pine needle coverage…………what an A$$. Anyway, we decided to lob another task at this joker and requested that he clean it all up and in addition to clear all of the misc junk from the back yard that he probably couldn’t see while moving out in the dark last night. The moral of todays story……hhhmmm……how about this one. What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. Hopefully tomorrows news will be a complete 180 from todays.
