Doctors May Be Third Leading Cause of Death

Doctors May Be Third Leading Cause of Death
I ran across this article on Digg and though it frightens me, I think it does more to support my already present fears of the health care industry in general. For years I have been avoiding doctors, dentists, and the like, and though it is mostly to my detriment, this article does not help the situation.
As it turns out, my job gives me a unique look inside medical facilities and, like the article, it also keeps my fears going full force. Most of the time, my work experience allows me to see just how complacent some nursing staff and doctors can be. To some of them, this is just a job, punching the clock to get a paycheck. That scares the crap out of me because “just punching the clock” does not provide the kind of care and compassion that the sick, wounded, and otherwise need to heal. I think the complacency issues stem from the shift the medical industry has experienced. Health care is now big business, where the almighty dollar rules above all. Care is still the product, but in my opinion, the product has saturated the market. Therefore the quality of the the product has suffered. Look around next time your out and notice how many health care facilities are present in the community. They are becoming as common and visible as McDonalds, 7-11, and Starbucks.
