Fat America

The 10K got me going in the proper direction and I hope to keep it up, I need to be fit and trim when I take a wife later this year! Ya know? So I was cruising the interweb and ran across this idiot. CLICK HERE The quote just makes it worse. The good news is that a license plate is visible, so if anyone wants to go throw donuts at his house, let me know! But seriously, I watch what I eat, the problem? Watching is only half the battle, if I watched myself eat crap all of the time, I’d still be watching what I ate right? Getting married is certainly a great reason to get on the fit wagon, but a lifestyle change is whats going to make it stick. I believe that if you “diet”, once the diet is over, the fat starts piling up right away. It’s got to be a reasonable set of small changes that stick. Oddly enough, the more I get settled in our new house, the better I see my fitness lifestyle. I live in a neighborhood that I can step outside and go for a ride on my bicycle or go jogging. The gym is only a minute up the road also. So I have no reason not to take advantage. I actually to a 7 mile bike ride the other day and it was rather nice. So heres to making good changes stick.

We’re Out!

Well it’s official, we are no longer living between two dwellings. The apartment is empty and most of the keys are turned in. Getting out the last pile of stuff was rather excruciating since the soreness had really set in yesterday from the race, but we hammered through it and got everything out of there. Now it’s time to get the house situated. I’m so happy to be rid of that apartment, it was swell and all, but the swelling has gone down. We absolutely love our new home and can’t wait to get it straight enough to have people over. Big plans, big plans I tell ya. Soon we’ll have a grill to fire up and a yard fit for a family. Stay tuned. I have been slacking on the progress photos, mostly because, not much has changed. We now have a ton of boxes to unpack and some furniture to arrange. When I actually do things that warrant a before and after shot, they will end up here. Time to go do something constructive……

Monument Ave. 10K

Well, we did it. Again…….
For the second year in a row now, we have participated in the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K. As if we don’t have enough going on, we went and ran our butts off. It was a very nice day for it and there were 24,000 spots and the race sold out! I’m sure there were a few slackers that didn’t show up, but as usual, there were tons of people there. Suffice it to say we were not in top fitness condition, not preparing will do that to ya every time, but am proud that we finished. It’s kind of weird because recently I have been getting home and actually wanting to go for a run. So, hopefully that feeling will not subside and by next year I’ll be in tip top shape. I’m not planning on putting any heat on the 28 minute 10K Kenyans though. If I’m over half way in 28 minutes I’ll be ecstatic!

Kwik-E-Mart

I heard about this on the radio last week, but could not find any confirmation of it anywhere. But today, well today is completely different. I was surfing DIGG.COM and ran across a link to THIS. Yep a link to Richmonds very own Times Dispatch and the story that confirms that 7-Eleven is planning to convert a few of it’s stores into Kwik-E-Marts to coincide with the upcoming Simpsons movie! I have always enjoyed the Simpsons and as you may have noticed, I have added a Simpsons random quote generator to the site. I actually ran across them both by accident today, I’m not on a Simpsons binge or anything. If Richmond does in fact get a Kwik-E-Mart or two, I will certainly indulge and bring back a picture or two. WooHoo!!!

MMMM…..Something……..
You may or may not get that one. Mel will though.

Life is Good

I have no rants so for today, so how about a message filled with sunshine and kittens instead. OK, not really, but the “Life is Good” fad is actually one I can get behind. I own few garments from the company and for some reason I tend to smile every time I put them on. Sometimes you need a nice reminder that everything doesn’t suck. The first time I bought a “Life is Good” hat was very soon after my motorcycle accident. I guess you could say it had a little extra meaning to me. Anyway, I really love seeing businesses like this come out of the ground. I often think about having my own business and hope that I can come up with an equally good idea that will become as nationally recognized and accepted. So that’s my message for the day………. Life is Good

Painting is a Behr

Painting is a Behr indeed! We have recently come to the realization, like many first time home owners, that life doesn’t slow down when you buy a house. In fact, it seems to have picked up speed. If we were rich and could take a few weeks off, we might be able to lay down the paint and get-r-done. Sadly, this is not the case for us. So, we will be weekend painters for a long, long time. We’ve been burning the candle at both ends since before Christmas and I think we’re about outa wax.

PS – I borrowed the Behr logo and some random persons picture of paint cans, don’t sue me.

Dog Tired Today!

Moving day is an odd day. One the one hand it’s great because, in most cases, you’re making a new step towards something important in you’re life. In our case this is most definitely true. One the other hand, however, moving day is one of the most grueling, tiring, marathon kind of days that you won’t soon forget. Yesterday was no exception. We moved everything but the kitchen …….. the kitchen sink stays, thank goodness. We filled the Rent-A-Truck to the top and had only a couple of inches of clearance for the door to shut. I guess you could say we got our moneys worth. When I was driving the truck over here to the new house, it felt like I had an elephant in tow. The steering was weired and the acceleration was that of a horse and buggy. The unloading was a freaking marathon, at least it went quickly. It was a very nice feeling to realize, while carrying all of our stuff down from the top floor, that we probably won’t be doing any 3rd floor move ins any time soon. Yeah, we do have a second floor in our house, so we didn’t get off scott free or anything, but it was most definitely easier than doing the sideways shuffle two or three times to get to a top floor apartment. All things considered, yesterday went very well. I am very appreciative of everyone that came over to help. Without them, we wouldn’t be done yet. I have so many things to do and all I want to do is take a nap.

NASA @ Home

Hopefully one day I will have a need and will be able to afford this kind of home office setup. I’m not sure that my need will ever call for such a setup, but a computer geek can dream can’t he? Check the link for more photos.

Moving Day

Well, moving day is quickly approaching. We are setup with a truck for Saturday and have enlisted the help of a few family members. It’s weird actually, I stopped by the apartment this afternoon to check the mail and it felt VERY strange. Even though most of our stuff is still at the apartment, the house already feels like home. The apartment, well, it feels good to not call it home anymore. I mean really, we have been there for a long time and I can’t wait to turn in the keys.

Actually, I have been constructing a rant to post for over a week now and seeing as I have not been able to word it well enough to actually put up on the front page, I’ll insert the abbreviated version here.

You see, our downstairs neighbor has been living at the complex for a while now. Within the first week of her moving in she complained to the office about us making a lot of noise. Specifically noise related to walking……..WALKING!! Needless to say, I was not amused that we were being told we needed to keep the walking noise down.
No clogging after 8, no problem.
No WWE RAW reenactments after 8:30, ok.
But “keep the walking to a minimum when it’s late”, retarded.
I can appreciate the desire to have a quiet home, I love a quiet home. And thats why I ALWAYS LIVED IN A TOP FLOOR APARTMENT! The most ironic part about this whole experience is that last week we got a new notice. A notice that the office had received a complaint about us making noise. Specifically, loud noises. First off, at this point we had not been sleeping at the apartment for a few days. I will admit up front that we had stopped by one evening to pick up clothes and things and it was rather late, but it wasn’t 1 AM or anything. I am 100% sure that it was our downstairs neighbor, again. I explained the situation to the property manager and she seemed to be on my side about the whole thing, but it still chafes me that we are the most conservative young people in the building and yet, to the downstairs neighbor, we are loud, obnoxious, inconsiderate hoodlums, or something like that. It comes down to a lack of understanding, which, in part, is why the 70/30 rule exists for me. More on that theory in a later post.
Really, it’s a moo point, you know, it’s a cows opinion so it doesn’t matter. I mean, we don’t live there any more. Essentially we have a very expensive storage unit that has air conditioning and a toilet. But as I said in the opening, it’s almost over. We have officially stepped into a new chapter in our life. We have made the leap out of our top floor apartments and into a mountain of debt.
