I am not really a fan of this “sport”, but this is pretty crazy…

Twitter……. The Next Friendster?

image

Twitter is awesome……when it is working. And for some reason there have been some monumental outages recently. We’re talking serious downtimes. The last two days, for example, has been extremely slow if not down altogether. See, I am officially addicted to Twitter and I need my Twitter fix on a daily basis. If Twitter is unable to fulfill my needs, I am going to look elsewhere for that fix… The problem, all of my Twitter peeps will have to do the same thing, otherwise I will be talking to myself and trust me, that doesn’t need to happen any more than it already does.

So what’s a geek to do. For now I am battening down the hatches and waiting it out, but if the storm last too long, I just might have to find a way out…

Oh, you might be wondering why I titled this post “Twitter……. The Next Friendster?”….. Well, back in the day when all of this Social Network stuff was a wee little child, Friendster showed up and got everyone doing the social network thang. Friendster became very popular, very quickly and the end result was that it’s popularity buried it. The site was always hosed and downtime became a norm. That’s when MySpace showed up. I don’t remember how long the swarm took to shift, but it feels like it was fast, really fast. I remember hearing about it one day and setting up an account. It was awesome and everyone knew it. Shortly after that the stampede began and there was no looking back. Friendster still exists, but I have not met a single soul in years that has an account there.

So that’s Friendster, will Twitter be next? Is something about to replace it? There seem to be alternatives, but there is nothing quite as simple and elegant as Twitter. It’s just code though, so you never know….oh and lots of servers and bandwidth….

Let this be the official record that will allow me to say “I knew this was going to happen” if, in fact, Twitter gets replaced.

I am still rooting for Twitter though. I like Twitter and wish it/them no harm…

Standard vs. High Def. Television

Very poignant little comic indeed.

I don’t think ALL television shows are garbage, just most of them…

Flying P3n!s Disrupts Speech

I have to admit upfront that this is not as PG as I try to keep things around here, but this just HAS to be posted. I almost lost it whilst @ work when I saw this. The details of the “event” are fuzzy. Garry Kasparov is an opposition leader of some kind in Russia fighting the good fight against Putin. Apparently Kasparov is used to this kind of thing and has not only been distracted by these kinds of stunts, but also arrested in some cases. One commenter noted that this kind of stunt was devised to humiliate Kasparov and discount the content of his speech. Anyway, political foolery aside, this was pretty funny. I can’t say I have ever seen anything quite like this…

Monday Morning Weigh In – Week 3

Yep, slid back a couple this week. I powered through the weekend well with a quick, but hard ride on my bike on Saturday and yesterday I played 9 holes with my brother in law and we walked it, but it was too little too late. The damage was done and pounds hung around. My food decisions break down like this; 80% Very Good, 15% Good, and 5% Eh, could be better. I have not hit the drive through for any combos and deserts have been limited to frozen yogurt and fruit so far.

The key is exercise. THE KEY IS EXERCISE! I hit the gym twice on the first week and lost 5 pounds. Back in the day I lost a bunch of weight and my routine included two to three visits to the gym per week. So it’s not like I need to hit it 5 days a week, honestly that’s a good way to burn myself out on the whole thing, but I need to step it up and make sure I hit the minimums.

Anyway, week three was kind of like a Wednesday, you know, hump day. I need to get over the hump and get to it!

That is all for now…

Boston Dynamics Big Dog

Watch this whole video, it’s freaking crazy. The first thing I thought when I saw it was “Yeah, big deal, kick it over, problem solved”. I guess that was my first thought since I recently played Portal. It’s amazing how it recovers, extremely human like. It also walks across ice and manages to stay up as well.

Moral Law Vs. Legal Law

I am sure I am not the first to ponder this question, nor will I be the last, but I typed out this idea on my iPod Touch on the plane while on the way back from California and ran across it today. So this is what I wrote…

Most of the time “rules” seem to lay in line with what people, in general, would agree is in line with moral law. There are times, however, when one can be fully within the legal law or rule set, but teetering on or completely over the moral line.

Is that where the law fails society, or is that the point in which society fails itself? If there was a law for every “wrong”, we would all be locked up or fined.

First, I think moral law is broken a lot more often than I am willing to admit. I also think that the law does not fail society, society is failing itself.

There is so much more to life that following rules and laws. The rules, the laws, to me, are a starting point, a baseline for everyone to grow from.

GT Snowracers Extreme!

I used to have one of these and they are awesome sleds. I guess going down the hill really fast just went out of style or something, but this is freaking great!

Lonesome Highway – Rain Please Go Away

I was thinking about posting a bunch of rain related YouTube videos today in an effort to complain loudly about the massive quantities of rain and gloomy weather we have been experiencing. Luckily, the clouds have let up on us today and it seems like I might actually be able to successfully attend an outdoor concert tonight. Nevertheless a bluegrassy, rain go away song seems like a good way to go out today.

John Piper – Don’t Waste Your Pulpit

Whit, my brother in law, sent me the link to this video and considering some of my thoughts lately, I found this video very interesting and thought provoking. Spirituality, Religion, Christianity, what ever you want to call it, can so easily be focused on the wrong things. I don’t and have never run a church, but I imagine it’s always hard to keep the focus. Maybe, in a sense, the troubles and unfocused scenarios seen in a church can serve as a visual for how we all struggle to keep focused in our own lives.
